President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide presidential primary.

Tinubu, who received the party’s certificate of return and symbolic flag on Sunday at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, pledged to consolidate ongoing economic reforms, strengthen national security, and continue building what he described as a modern Nigeria if re-elected for a second term.

Speaking after his emergence, the President expressed gratitude to party members and renewed his commitment to national development.

“In accepting this nomination, I renew my commitment to serve our nation with even greater determination,” Tinubu said.

“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation.”

The Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the results at the venue attended by governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, presidential aides, members of the National Working Committee, and other party stakeholders.

According to the committee, Tinubu’s closest challenger, Stanley Osifo, secured 16,503 votes.

Anyim disclosed that the presidential primary was conducted in line with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, electoral laws, and the APC constitution across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas, and 8,809 wards on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

He stated that out of 12,643,316 registered party members, 11,069,746 were accredited, while 11,015,665 members voted during the exercise.

The committee chairman described the process as transparent and credible, noting that agents of both aspirants were given the opportunity to challenge results and seek redress where necessary.

Tinubu, while addressing party faithful, thanked APC governors, lawmakers, the presidential primary committee, the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, and party members for giving him another opportunity to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming election.

The President also defended the performance of his administration over the last three years, citing reforms in the economy, education, power, infrastructure, and oil and gas sectors.

According to him, the administration’s economic reforms, including tax and fiscal policies, have improved revenue generation, while the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has disbursed over N282 billion to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.

On power supply, Tinubu said his government had supplied 2.5 million electricity meters through the Presidential Metering Initiative and established a N4 trillion bond programme to offset verified debts owed to electricity generation and gas companies.

He added that power generation had at times peaked at 6,000 megawatts, representing a 50 per cent increase from what his administration inherited.

The President further defended the removal of fuel subsidies and exchange rate reforms, saying the measures were beginning to yield positive economic outcomes despite global economic pressures linked to tensions in the Middle East and the Iran conflict.

Speaking on infrastructure, Tinubu said his administration was constructing durable roads and superhighways, including the coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry route, while also improving airports and seaports neglected over the years.

He noted that reforms in the oil and gas sector had begun attracting fresh investments worth billions of dollars.

On security, the President acknowledged that parts of the country were still facing security challenges but assured Nigerians that his administration would continue efforts to restore peace and stability nationwide.

“I assure you that I take seriously the responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of every Nigerian. We will not rest until we restore peace and stability to every corner of our country,” he said.

Tinubu also extended a hand of partnership to political opponents, stressing that democracy thrives on diversity of ideas and collective nation-building.
