The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Ikeja Branch, has elected Mr. Ekundayo Omitaomu, FCNA, as its new chairman following a keenly contested election.

Omitaomu, an Assistant Director in the Finance and Accounts Directorate of the Lagos State House of Assembly, emerged victorious at the polls held at the Radio Lagos Multipurpose Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

Out of a total of 96 members who voted, Mr. Omitaomu secured 73 votes to defeat his opponent, Mrs. Siwoku Adewunmi Olubukola, FCNA, who polled 23 votes.

The Ikeja Branch of ANAN boasts a membership strength of over 2,500 professional accountants, making it one of the largest and most influential branches of the Association.

Speaking shortly after the election, members described the process as transparent, peaceful, and credible, expressing confidence in the leadership capacity of the new chairman to further reposition the Association and advance professional excellence.

ANAN, founded on January 1, 1979, later attained chartered status through Decree 76 of 1993 (now Cap A26, LFN 2004). The Association remains a foremost professional accountancy body in Nigeria, committed to advancing the science of accountancy and setting high ethical and professional standards. It is also notable as the only accounting body in Nigeria with a dedicated tertiary institution, the National College of Accountancy, and works in collaboration with international accounting bodies such as PAFA and ABUWA.

The immediate past chairman, Mr. Ilori Saburi Daniel, FCNA, now serves as an ex-officio member of the branch.

Other members of the newly constituted executive include Dr. Bolarinwa Olaoti (vice chairman); Mrs. Mopelola Monsurat Yusuf (financial secretary); Mr. Oluwagbemiga Olusi (treasurer); Mrs. Kehinde Anaye (general secretary); Mrs. Gift Otunahia (assistant general secretary); Mr. Daniel Saburi (ex-officio member I); Mrs. Margaret Babatunde (ex-officio member II); and Mrs. Olutoyin Aro (public relations officer/social secretary).

With the emergence of Mr. Omitaomu, stakeholders are optimistic that the Ikeja Branch of ANAN will witness renewed vigour in professional training, capacity building, and strategic collaboration within the accounting profession.
