The Inner Wheel District 911 has reiterated its commitment to selfless service by providing immediate succour and relief to the less privileged and the needy in society.
The outgoing District Chairman, Adenike Sodipo, made this known at the 2024–2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the District, held at the Rotary Centre, Ladoke Akintola Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.
She expressed delight at the honour of leading the Club and pledged her continued support to her successor.
While giving an account of her stewardship at the event, Sodipo noted that the Inner Wheel made a remarkable impact in the lives of many during her tenure.
According to her, the District carried out regular medical interventions, including eye surgeries, girl-child advocacy, and awareness walks to educate the public on the club’s contributions to society.
Speaking on behalf of some awardees who were absent at the event, Dr. Basirat Giwa stated that the recognition reflected the Inner Wheel District’s collaborative efforts in providing humanitarian service.
She noted that eye problems, such as cataracts—which the District had intervened in several times—are often age-related and unavoidable.
Dr. Giwa also emphasized the need for specialists such as ophthalmologists in the District and commended Dr. Wole Kukoyi of Rotary District 9111 for donating part of his hospital in Otta for humanitarian purposes, especially to aid the poor.
She added that many patients with eye conditions benefited from the subsidized surgeries, which are typically expensive in government hospitals.
