Former Chairmen of the Lagos Branch of the foremost human rights organization, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), led by notable figures such as Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, have congratulated one of their own, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, on his recent appointment as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
In a press release issued on Thursday and signed by Comrades Gbenga Soloki and Ade Ikuesan, the past leaders of CDHR described Dr. Opeifa as “a humanist, pragmatic public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian,” emphasizing his unquantifiable passion for good governance and national development.
They expressed confidence that Dr. Opeifa would bring significant transformation to the Railway Corporation, as he has done in previous roles, particularly as the Commissioner of Transportation in Lagos State, where he successfully developed a master plan for the state’s transport sector.
The statement further highlighted Dr. Opeifa’s unwavering commitment to humanity, noting that this would enable him to formulate policies that ensure Nigerians are prioritized in the operations of the NRC.
According to the release, “We want to congratulate our leader and former Chairman of CDHR Lagos State, whose remarkable tenure ended in 1997, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, on his appointment as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
“Undoubtedly, Dr. Kayode Opeifa has been a firm believer in the progress and development of this country. He has worked with progressive forces to birth democracy and has remained steadfast in pursuing projects and proposals that uplift the downtrodden. This appointment will surely be another successful chapter, as he has excelled in all previous assignments.”
“On behalf of other past Chairmen of CDHR Lagos State, both living and departed, we celebrate this milestone and wish him well. We also commend President Tinubu for the choice of Dr. Opeifa as MD of the NRC,” the statement concluded.
