Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles secured a spot in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Galaxies at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday.
After a goalless first leg in Accra, the Eagles B dominated the return leg, netting three goals in the first half.
Remo Stars duo Sodiq Ismail and Nduka Junior opened the scoring within 22 minutes, with Rangers’ Kazeem Ogunleye adding a third in the 25th minute.
Ghana’s Stephen Amankuna pulled one back in the 73rd minute, but it was only a consolation as Nigeria held on to secure their first CHAN qualification since 2018.
The win was particularly sweet, coming against a Ghanaian side that had previously denied Nigeria CHAN qualification in 2008 and 2022.
The Eagles B will now join the tournament, set to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania from February 1–25, 2025, where they will aim to surpass their 2018 runners-up finish.
