The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has dismissed recent media reports claiming that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery has been shut down.

In a statement issued by Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., the company reaffirmed that the refinery remains fully operational.

According to the statement, the refinery, which was re-streamed two months ago, has continued to function efficiently. The operational status was recently verified by a team of former Group Managing Directors of NNPC during an inspection visit.

“Preparation for the day’s loading operation is currently ongoing,” Soneye noted, emphasizing that the reports of a shutdown are baseless.

He described such claims as “figments of the imagination of those who want to create artificial scarcity and rip-off Nigerians.”

NNPC urged the public to disregard the false reports and assured Nigerians of its commitment to maintaining steady refinery operations to meet the nation’s energy needs.

This clarification comes amid heightened concerns about fuel supply and market stability, with NNPC calling on stakeholders to refrain from actions that could disrupt the petroleum distribution chain.
