Nollywood films Jagun Jagun and The Weekend both won several awards at the recently concluded 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards.

The 20th edition of the awards, hosted by veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze and Ghanaian TV host and actress Joselyn Dumas, was held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos State.

According to information obtained from its website, the AMAA was established in 2005 to facilitate the development and relevance of African film and cinema by providing a platform for the reward and recognition of filmmakers on the continent.

The Weekend, directed by Daniel Oriahi, won AMAA awards for Best Film, Achievement in Cinematography, among others.

The film featured prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, including Keppy Ekpenyong-Bassey, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, and Gloria Anozie, among others.

Versatile actor and producer Femi Adebayo bagged the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Jagun Jagun.

The action-packed Yoruba film was directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo and featured Lateef Adedimeji, Faithia Williams, Odunlade Adekola, and Ibrahim Yekini, among others.

The 12-member jury committee for the awards was chaired by filmmaker and writer Dorothee Wenner, including former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos, Steve Ayorinde, among others.
