The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt the disbursement of monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government.
Justice Abdulmalik ruled on Wednesday that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget to a four-member Rivers House of Assembly was a violation of constitutional provisions.
She described Fubara’s acceptance and distribution of monthly allocations since January as a serious constitutional breach that must not continue.
The judge further stated that Fubara’s enforcement of an invalid budget represented a significant violation of the 1999 Constitution, which he pledged to uphold.
Consequently, she issued a restraining order on the CBN, Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank, preventing them from granting Fubara access to funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
