…Calls on Mothers to Instill Right Values in Children

In a bid to strengthen the nation’s fight against cybercrime, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) 24/7 Rapid Response Desk.

The initiative aims to ensure swift action against cybercriminals while fostering transparency in the handling of reports.

Speaking at the National Cybercrime Summit in Abuja, Senator Tinubu highlighted the importance of proactive engagement with youth and parents in addressing the growing threat of cybercrime.

She urged mothers, in particular, to instill positive values in their children and to maintain open lines of communication to prevent them from being lured into illegal activities.

The First Lady reiterated that hard work and honesty are non-negotiable for achieving success, warning that choosing dishonest paths, including cybercrime, will have severe consequences.

“As parents, we are our children’s first teachers. What we instill in them now will shape their future. It is crucial that we raise them to be honest, hardworking, and law-abiding citizens.”

Senator Tinubu expressed concerns over the increasing involvement of Nigerian youth in cybercrime, despite ongoing efforts by the EFCC to prosecute offenders. With youth representing over 60% of the nation’s population, she stressed that tackling this issue is key to ensuring sustainable economic development and national stability.

She called on parents to take an active role in their children’s lives, fostering relationships built on trust and communication to address any insecurities or doubts their children may have. “It is our duty to guide them in the right direction and help them embrace the dignity of labor, rather than seeking shortcuts through cybercrime.”

Quoting the Bible, Senator Tinubu reminded all stakeholders of the need to work together to uplift Nigeria.

She emphasized that the nation’s wealth should benefit everyone and urged leaders across different sectors to mentor the youth, steering them toward productive endeavors and away from illegal activities.

In addition to the First Lady’s address, other key speakers at the event, including Minister of State for Youth, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, state governors, and traditional rulers, also echoed the need for a collective approach to value reorientation.

They called on families, religious leaders, and traditional institutions to champion the cause of restoring moral values in society.

The highlight of the event was the launch of the EFCC’s 24/7 Rapid Response Desk, which aims to reduce response times to cybercrime incidents and enhance the commission’s efficiency in addressing reports.
