In a significant victory against drug trafficking, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided the Lagos base of a high-profile cocaine syndicate, recovering a large consignment of class A drugs intended for export and local distribution.
The syndicate, headed by Agbakoba John Mmadu and his wife, Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe, along with their associate, Okoye Ifeoma Maryjane, was brought down following months of meticulous intelligence gathering and surveillance.
The NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, announced in a statement that the special operations unit executed the raid after identifying the syndicate’s notorious activities in packaging, distributing, and trafficking cocaine within and outside Nigeria.
On Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, the 54-year-old ringleader, Agbakoba John Mmadu, was apprehended at Ago Palace Way, Okota.
Concurrently, his wife, Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe, 39, and their 31-year-old associate, Okoye Ifeoma Maryjane, who also served as the stash keeper, were captured at Plot 2205 Eugene Ndubisi Close, Lilly Estate, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.
The raid resulted in a substantial seizure of cocaine. Seven parcels weighing 7.652 kilograms were recovered from Mmadu at Ago Palace Way.
Meanwhile, 122 compressed pellets weighing 2.42 kilograms were seized from Ijeoma and Ifeoma at Lilly Estate. The total haul amounted to 10.1 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of over N2.1 billion.
