The Kaduna State House of Assembly has formed a committee to scrutinize the financial records of the state during the tenure of Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of the state.
The committee’s mandate includes examining loans, grants, and project executions from 2015 to 2023—the period when el-Rufai served as governor.
On March 30, Governor Uba Sani stated that his administration inherited a debt of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual obligations from the el-Rufai era.
Speaking at a town hall meeting, Sani emphasized that his administration has not incurred any new debt in the past nine months.
However, he expressed concern that the substantial debt burden is significantly impacting the state’s share of the monthly federation allocation.
