The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a three-count charge against the well-known Instagram personality Pascal Okechukwu, more commonly known as Cubana Chief Priest.
He is accused of unlawfully spraying and tampering with Nigerian currency at a social gathering, which contravenes the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
Cubana Chief Priest is scheduled to appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024.
The charges were filed on April 4th by the EFCC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), along with seven other lawyers representing the Commission’s chairman.
In Count 1, it is alleged that on February 13th, 2024, at Eko Hotel in Lagos, Cubana Chief Priest tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them for two hours during a social event. This act is deemed an offense, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
In Count 2, it is alleged that at some point in 2020, during a social event in Lagos, Cubana Chief Priest similarly tampered with N500 notes by spraying them for two hours, also violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
In Count 3, it is alleged that in January 2024, during a social event in Lagos, Cubana Chief Priest tampered with N500 notes by spraying them, once again contravening Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
This development follows shortly after the EFCC brought charges against the controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, for similar offenses, resulting in a six-month jail sentence.
