The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, has invited all the PDP governorship aspirants from Osun State to a crucial meeting in Abuja on Monday.
Among those expected at the meeting are Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, who came second at the party’s primary and Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi among others.
It was gathered that Secondus would use the occasion to appeal to them to sheathe their swords and cooperate with both the party and its candidate to win the election.
Meanwhile, the candidate for the September 22 governorship election in the state, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has picked Mr. Albert Adeogun, as his running mate, SUNDAY PUNCH learnt on Saturday.
Adeogun, a member representing Ife Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, is also a retired Customs Area Controller.
He was among the aspirants who earlier signified their intention to contest the position of governor on the platform of the PDP, but later stepped down for Adeleke.
Authoritative sources at the party headquarters told our correspondent in Abuja on Saturday that the party had submitted the names of Adeleke and Adeogun to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Adeleke, who confirmed the selection of Adeogun as his running mate, told our correspondent that he was confident of winning the election.
He also appealed to other aspirants on the platform of the PDP to sheathe their swords and work with him in order to “wrest the state from the wicked hands of the APC.”
He said, “It is true that we have settled for Honourable Albert Adeogun as the deputy governorship candidate for the all-important race. The battle to win the forthcoming election is that of the entire people of Osun State.”
