Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has lauded President Bola Ahmed approving the concession of the reconstruction of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to the Ogun State government by the federal ministry of works.

Governor Abiodun is also excited that with the much awaited approval, the state government can now move swiftly to address the deplorable condition of the road so as to put an end to the hardship being encountered daily by motorists and other road users.

The road which runs through Lagos and Ogun states, has been in a terrible state for years, The Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration has been providing palliatives on the road since 2019.

However, the unrelenting efforts of Governor Abiodun to take over the reconstruction of the road finally yielded fruit on Monday when the federal government announced its approval for the Ogun state government to embark on the reconstruction of the dilapidated road and toll it.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, spoke on the new federal government position after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Aso Villa, Abuja on Monday.

“On permission to build federal roads, when such requests are made, we give approval within 24 hours but then there are conditions to be met – they must have to use the Federal Ministry of Works standard designs,” Umahi said.

It would be recalled.that some weeks ago, Umahi, was in Ogun state to inspect some federal road projects. The state government has seized the opportunity of the visit to discuss its readiness to take over the reconstruction of some  of the roads with the Minister.

Governor Abiodun expressed his utmost gratitude to President Tinubu for granting waht he described as a longstanding request,.the approval of which will help him to further deliver on his promise to leave nothing undone in his bid to make Ogun state a better place to live.

The governor expressed his satisfaction at being able to inform the good people of the state about  the Federal Government’ approval saying the decision brings great joy and signifies a commendable step towards alleviating the challenges faced by road users on this particular route.
