The Leadership Empowerment and Resource Network, (LEARN) a Non Governmental Organisation initiated by the wife of the former Lagos State Governor, Mrs Dame Abimbola Fashola is optimistic that the youths of today will soon occupy leadership roles in the country.
This expression of assurance was echoed during the learning is fun program to mark this year’s Children Day celebration held at the Trinity Hall, Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Mushin area of the state.
At the event, Threeteez Hall School came first in the Quiz competition while Dabitos Schools and Bosby Day Nursery/Primary School occupied second and third positions respectively.
In the essay competition, Elphie Private School emerged winner, Threeteez Hall School was second as Bright Rainbow took the third position.
In her welcome address at the event, the LEARN Project Coordinator, Rebecca Oluwaponmile said all participants are winners in their own rights.
She said the students will contest in three categories which include Quiz, Essay Writing and Spelling competition.
According to her, the vision of LEARN is to develop the young people to discover their talents in order to get fully prepared for the future challenges.
She noted that the body also provides learning materials as well as regular free Summer coaching to keep the students busy during the holiday to avoid being led into social vices by peer group and environmental influence.
Some of the Teachers who led their students to the event thanked the former First Lady, Mrs Dame Abimbola Fashola for creating an environment for health rivalry among the young ones in Lagos state.
They were of the view that more spirited Nigerians and private bodies should initiate similar programmes that could prepare the nation’s future leaders from tender age.
Young talented and creative students also showcased their God given talents which attracted standing ovation from their peers and teachers who graced the event.
Some of the participating schools are Winsmart Schools, Royal Star School, Dabitos Schools, Threeteez Hall School, Havimar Headstart Schools, Bright Rainbow School,Elphe Private School, Ritz Grace School and Bosby Day Nursery/Primary Schools.
