A civil society organization, Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) has congratulated and felicitated with the  government and good people of Lagos and the Lagos State University community on the appointment of Prof Mrs Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello as the 9th Vice Chancellor of the institution.

In a press release issued on Sunday the 19th of September 2021 in Lagos, the organization executive director, Nelson Ekujumi, described the appointment of Prof. Olatunji Bello as “Democracy in Action in the ivory tower” having been the outcome of the decision of the joint committee of council and the Senate in accordance with the LASU law Cap 169, Vol 7 laws of Lagos State.

According to CSER, Prof Mrs Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello merited her appointment on the basis of her track record of accomplishment as an academician and administrator of repute having held sensitive positions both within and outside the classroom and distinguished herself creditably.

The organization frowned and condemned attempts from certain quarters to question the competence and capability of Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello on grounds of factors other than merit and excellence which should not have a place in an academic community where both principles ought to be the barometer.

The Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) also commended the visitor of the institution and Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his steadfastness, courage and sincerity in not interfering in the selection process of the Vice Chancellor whose outcome has been greatly commended and welcomed by all the university community stakeholders and even beyond.

According to the Executive Director of (CSER), with the appointment of Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello as 9th VC of LASU which has enjoyed tremendous commendation and goodwill from within and outside the country, “We are not in doubt that Prof Mrs Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello will go on to step into the great shoes of female VC’s who distinguished themselves in office like Prof Grace Alele Williams of UNIBEN, Prof Jadesola of Akande of LASU who became the epitome and torchbearers of women administrators in public service”.

The group wished Prof Mrs Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello a peaceful and successful tenure in office in ensuring that LASU maintains it’s standard of academic excellence noted globally and go on to achieve more.

Thank you.

Yours Sincerely,

Nelson Ekujumi,

Executive Director.
