Convener of the group, Comrade Soyoye Ekundayo, in a statement in Abuja Thursday, said, “When our members read an unconfirmed report that some private hospitals are issuing fake COVID-19 clearance certificates to desperate members of the public, our first reaction was disbelief, shock and bewilderment!”

According to him, bewilderment, shock and disbelief in the sense that, “we cannot, in a slightest imagination believe that, institutions meant to save lives could be so callous as to putting the lives they are supposed to save at risk through issuance of fake certificate,” insisting that, “such murderous conducts deserve stiff sanctions to save the lives of the public and serve as deterrent to others in their shoes.”

Such an unethical and unprofessional conducts by supposed savers of lives, Ekundayo continued, do not deserve to be handled with levity because of the threat to lives involved, calling on the relevant authorities to monitor the situation very well with a view to curbing it properly for the sake of national safety and interest.

The activist therefore warned members of the public to avoid any underhand attitude that could put their lives at the risk of untimely death just as he called of the government to fish out some offenders and make scape goat of them, saying, the offence is grievous and deadly.

“In as much as the government is doing its best to keep the people safe, it behove on the people to reciprocate the government’s good gesture by complying with the preventive measures put down for their welfare. And since the vaccine for COVID-19 has not been supplied, the people should just keep within the preventive regulations known global for the safety of life. Cutting corner in this medical matter could be dangerous,” he warned.

Ekundayo, concluding, reminded that, washing of hands, keeping away from crowd, wearing of masks and keeping clean environment, for now, are the known potent anti-COVID-19 magic to be observed, insisting that, prevention is better than cure.
