A key highlight of the session was the appointment of new principal officers to steer the Assembly’s legislative agenda.

Hon. Temitope Adedeji (Ifako Ijaiye 1) emerged as the new Majority Leader, while Hon. Sanni Babatunde (Kosofe 1) was appointed as the Chief Whip.

The House also elected Hon. Richard Kasunmu (Ikeja 2) as the Deputy Majority Leader and Hon. David Setonji (Badagry 2) as the Deputy Chief Whip.

The appointments signal a fresh chapter for the Assembly following the removal of former Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Hon. Meranda emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration as the Assembly moves forward with its legislative duties.

The plenary session was attended by 37 members, while three members, including the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, ex-Majority Leader Nojeem Adams, and Hon. Akinsanya Nureni, were absent.

Hon. Temitope Adedeji, in his new role as Majority Leader, is expected to play a pivotal part in fostering synergy between the Assembly and the executive arm of government to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to Lagosians.
