The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oguduokwor Ward in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has announced the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa, the suspended National Vice Chairman of the party in the Southeast.
Odefa was initially suspended from the party by the ward executives on September 11, 2024, over allegations of anti-party activities. This suspension was further affirmed by the Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki on November 29, 2024.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday evening, Onyeka Ovuta, the Acting Chairman of PDP Oguduokwor Ward, flanked by other ward executives, stated that Odefa’s expulsion followed the recommendation of the party’s disciplinary committee. The committee’s report upheld the allegations of anti-party activities leveled against Odefa and recommended his removal in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Ovuta explained that the decision to expel Odefa was unanimously approved by the Executive Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward on December 11, 2024, after a thorough review of the disciplinary committee’s findings and recommendations. By virtue of this decision, Odefa ceases to be a member of the party.
The party’s official statement reads:
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oguduokwor Ward, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, hereby announces the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa, the suspended National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Southeast Zone, from the party with immediate effect.
“The expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa follows the report, findings, and recommendations of the Ward Disciplinary Committee of the party, which are in line with the provisions of the PDP constitution.
“Recall that Chief Ali Odefa was suspended from the party by the Ward leadership on September 11, 2024.
“Consequent upon the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abakaliki, in suit number FHC/AI/CS/182/2024, which affirmed the suspension of Chief Ali Odefa, the Disciplinary Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward, after its sittings on the above subject matter, unanimously recommended that Chief Ali Odefa, the suspended PDP National Vice Chairman, Southeast Zone, be expelled from the party.
“The Executive Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward, on December 11, 2024, after receiving the report, findings, and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee of PDP Oguduokwor Ward, unanimously approved the expulsion of Chief Ali Odefa from the party in compliance with Section 58(1) and Section 59(1) of the PDP constitution.
“Henceforth, Chief Ali Odefa ceases to be a member of our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
This development marks the final resolution of the disciplinary actions initiated against Odefa, signaling the party’s firm stance against anti-party activities.
