In a statement titled “A Historic Milestone: Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Operations,” the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Femi Soneye, celebrated the achievement as a pivotal moment for the nation.

“Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing. This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation,” Soneye said.

He attributed the success of the project to the dedication of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the leadership of Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.

Soneye praised their collective vision and commitment to transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape.

The reopening of the refinery is expected to reduce the country’s reliance on imported petroleum products, lower production costs, and create jobs. It represents a significant step in NNPC’s broader strategy to revitalize Nigeria’s refining capacity and secure energy self-sufficiency.

“This achievement reaffirms our determination to reshape Nigeria’s energy future,” Soneye added, describing the refinery’s launch as a testament to the government’s commitment to sustainable development in the oil and gas sector.

The Port Harcourt Refinery’s resumption of operations is part of an ongoing effort to modernize and expand Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.
