Yoruba Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as KWAM or K1 De Ultimate, has responded to allegations from some of his band members, including Ayankunle Ayanlowo, who accused him of mistreating them.
In an interview with GoldMyne TV on Sunday, K1 emphasized that Ayankunle and the others were merely being mischievous and attempting to tarnish his reputation with their respective interviews.
Ayankunle recounted his experiences working with KWAM1, alleging mistreatment and likening his relationship with the musician to that of a master and a slave.
He claimed that KWAM1 would confiscate their passports during travel and cited an incident where he was instructed to return home instead of seeking medical attention.
Expressing ongoing health concerns attributed to stress from his approximately 32 years with KWAM1, Ayankunle vowed to hold the singer accountable if anything happened to him.
In response, KWAM1 refuted the allegations, stating that Ayankunle, who complained of his passport being withheld, had fled the band while they were on tour in England.
He claimed that Ayankunle’s passport had been confiscated by British authorities for overstaying beyond the visa return date.
KWAM1 also addressed accusations from another band member, Ismaila Olubade, who alleged that KWAM1 withheld his passport and left them stranded in America to visit his ex-wife in London.
KWAM1 clarified that all band members have their passports and that he disbanded the group when their problems became overwhelming, subsequently regrouping with new members.
Regarding the accusation of staff mistreatment, KWAM1 stated that he has always listened to his band members and provided support when needed.
He cited an instance where he helped a band member whose house was marked for demolition in Oyo State, explaining that he facilitated assistance with the help of team members to address the situation.
