It was an atmosphere of joy and nostalgia when the old students of Oke Odo High School, Ebute Metta, converged on the prestigious Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, to celebrate another end of the year party.
The forum provided a platform for what could be described as a family reunion among the old students of the school from various graduating classes spanning thirty-five years and below.
A live band and a variety of delicacies added glamour and style to the event.
In his welcome address at the event, the President of the Oke Odo High School Old Students Association (OHSOSA), Alhaji Idowu Adenekan, described the year 2023 as very challenging for Nigerians, citing the effects of the naira swap and fuel subsidy removal.
He also highlighted the alarming security threats to the lives and property of Nigerians, comparing the nation’s economy to being in the Intensive Care Unit.
Alhaji Adenekan, however, commended members of the group for their resilience and steadfastness in supporting all activities of OHSOSA, both financially and morally, including the end of the year party.
He mentioned the commissioning of the ultra-modern building of Oke Odo Junior High School, Ebute Metta, by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as a memorable day and a great achievement for the association and the school.
The OHSOSA President listed some of the interventions in the school, including the sponsorship of the Annual Prize Giving day/Career Talk, provision of school uniforms and sandals to the less privileged, provision of a photocopy machine to the school, and discussions with the Lagos House of Assembly and the Ministry of Education for the re-introduction of Oke Odo Senior High School.
Alhaji Adenekan thanked all past presidents, executives, and the current leadership, along with the planning committee for the end of the year party, for organizing such a befitting event.
He urged members of various graduating classes who have seen the benefits of the association to encourage others who have yet to see the need to belong to their alma mater to do so.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Pastor Adeniyi Adepoju, expressed gratitude for the financial support received far and wide, which contributed to the success of the program.
He prayed that God, in His mercy, would ensure the safety of the members and their families to witness many more of such events.
