In a disappointing turn of events, Nigeria has lost its bid to host the African Cup of Nations in 2027.
The joint bid with the Benin Republic was unsuccessful, as Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania were announced as the joint hosts of the tournament for that year.
The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, along with representatives from the Nigeria Football Federation, had traveled to Egypt to present their bid.
Nigeria’s only previous hosting of the AFCON was in 1980, when the team emerged victorious in front of their home fans.
However, the joint hosting with Ghana in 2000 ended in disappointment, as Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions claimed the trophy at the National Stadium in Lagos.
