Trading of job slots to prospective job seekers at millions of Naira was the order of the day at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), before the coming of Dr Muheeba Dankaka as the Chairman, investigations conducted by this medium have revealed.
This medium also discovered that the insistence by Dr Dankaka to put a stop to the practice generated the barrage of negative publicity that have been sponsored against her in recent time, by some disgruntled elements in the Commission allegedly spearheaded by about five Federal Character Commissioners.
Sources from the FCC told our correspondent that for four years, FCC has no Chairman, it was run by few Commissioners and some senior staff of the Commission.
“With nobody in control, trading of job slots thrive at the Commission and it allegedly revolved around the few Commissioners and some senior directors of the Commission.
“As at that time, some job seekers backed up wealthy people, were paying millions of Naira to secure jobs.
“But when this woman came, she insisted on due process and I can tell you for free that this was main source of the recent and past bad publicity sponsored against her,” sources told our correspondent.
Investigations by this medium revealed that Dr Dankaka has been a self made woman before her ascension into office as Chairman of FCC.
“She is successful and has made it before becoming the Chairman of FCC. She had worked at the top echeleon of the Nigerian banking industry. She got her National Honour 12 years ago and was awarded Productivity Award five years ago all before she became the Chairman of FCC. She’s very rich and money was not her problem, hence you can’t accused her of misappropriation of funds. She’s very thorough and diligent.
“She came to FCC to right the wrongs and work on due process and she has been doing that. The media reports against are being sponsored by few disgruntled elements among the Commissioners and they’re just five in number out of 36 Commissioners plus one from the FCT,” our sources explained further.
According to our sources, the disgruntled Commissioners are insisting on having the nominal roll of very sensitive agencies like: DSS, NDLEA, EFCC, NFIU and NIA among others.
“These are classified documents that are not made public because of the nature of the duty of the aforementioned agencies, yet they’re demanding for it. The woman explained to them in clear terms why she can’t release the documents to them but they won’t understand,” this correspondent learnt.
This medium learnt that Dr Dankaka had no issue with her education. “She had all her education in Nigeria, she never schooled abroad. Go to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and Bayero University, Kano; her education records are public knowledge. It’s just a campaign of calumny against her. She has no issue with her academic records and qualifications. They’re just playing to the gallery,” our source added.
Our correspondent learnt further that Dr Dankaka has rejuvenated the Commission since she became the Chairman and the staff have been singing her praises with the innovation she had brought in especially with regards to staff welfare.
“She’s an action woman. A woman committed to due process and a woman who will always follow the constitution. She maybe a woman but she’s a very disciplined and an experienced administrator.
“She has displayed intelligence and deep administrative knowledge. The staff love her and the management and other Commissioners save for the disgruntled ones, are happy with her performance since she came on board as Chairman of the Commission,” our sources concluded.
