A northern based youth organization, North West Youth Alliance Against Corruption has restated its solid support for the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdur-Rasheed Bawa in his onerous task of ridding the country of criminals who are bent on ruining the country through their corrupt practices.
This was the resolve of the organization as stated in a communiqué at the end of its strategic meeting held in Kano on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The communiqué was jointly signed by its National President Hajjia Hauwa Garba Magaji and the Executive Secretary, Mallam Afeez Waze.
The meeting, according to the communiqué was convened on the heel of ill-conceived renewed onslaught on the person of the EFCC boss, Abdur-Rasheed Bawa and his agency which the organization viewed as uncalled for because the EFCC, under Bawa’s leadership is doing a fantastic job to cleanse the country of economic and financial saboteurs.
Acting in line with the philosophy of that great Pan-African revolutionary, Frantz Fanon, who said, “We simply revolt because we can no longer breath,” the group viewed the unnecessary campaign of calumny against Bawa in the country today, saying, “we have travelled through this path before especially since the inception of the anti-grant campaign in 2021.”
The organization said it has always been conspiracy webs by the net-work of the criminal elements from within and outside government circle against any sitting chairman of the anti-graft agency, the EFCC, vowing that, this time round, the enemies of the country would not be given any space to operate again.
The communiqué read in part thus: “Since the beginning of the anti-corruption war by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), never has the war and campaign has been vigorously pursued as we have it today under the present chairman of the agency our much beloved Mr Abdul-Rasheed Bawa but terror to the evil forces, we must therefore acknowledge president Buhari federal government for giving the chairman desired necessary support and tools with which to bore into the heart of Angel of ill-gotten wealth both inside and outside the county.
“Since assuming office in 2021, the EFFC chairman has been able to put some mechanism in place to enhance the performance of every department of the Agency as noticed by our under cover network, this has shocked the purveyors of corruption in the polity into panic the speedy trials, efficient recovery of ill-gotten wealth, involving several billions of naira and unimaginable foreign currencies of the world, numbers of convictions against the cartel have led once again usual campaign of calumny aimed at removing the chairman at all costs as they use to do in the past.
“We in the North West Youth Alliance Against Corruption therefore wish to express our full support to the agency’s day and night activities in their quest to make our nation corruption free in all ramifications. So, we hereby appeal very strongly to President Muhammad Buhari to ignore the ranting of those who profiteer in the sulking the blood of our country and continue intently to empower the agency especially under the able leadership of Mr Abdul-Rasheed Bawa.”
The organization noted with dismay that, the activities of those criminals in their unholy gang up against the EFCC chairman have become a serious matter of concern to the well-meaning Nigerians hence our call for protection of the chairman from possible harm by those evil forces who are hell bent at rubbishing president Buhari’s administration’s anti-corruption war.
Concluding, the group enjoined the agency to continue the pursuance of its vision, mission and the objectives in line with the clear path of ridding the country of the criminal minded elements particularly in line with commitment of the chairman Mr Abdul-Rasheed Bawa.
“We remain committed to the possibility of a new Nigeria where democracy and guaranteeing of basic human rights and corruption-free society would be the hallmarks of governance while hoping that Mr. President pays close attention to issues raised by our organization herein. We enjoin the EFCC and Mr Abdul-Rasheed Bawa to accept the assurances of our full cooperation for as long as the agency remains focused on the activities that promote citizens confidence, hope and possibilities,” the group promised.
