The Cost Of Fuel In Nigeria: Who Is To Be Blamed? By Rasaq Rukayat Oluwatosin

Fuel is so much expensive, and we are happy? Fuel is a substance consumed to provide energy through combustion, or through chemical or nuclear reaction. Fuel is a substance we used in every day activities.

Flashback to the days when we normally buy fuel at #60 and we do complain that it is too expensive, compared to now that we purchased fuel at #210 at some filling station, and some filling station sells higher than that price. And some people purchase black market (buying fuel from those selling fuel with gallon by the roadside.) at the rate of #300, which is very dangerous to the society but they still did not care both the buyer and the seller.

Because to the seller they use it to make money. And to the buyer they get to buy easily without lining up at the filing station. But it is causing fire outbreak at some places, yet they refused to stop because it didn’t happened to them. It is the masses that are suffering the most, but no one is doing anything to solve the issue.

Are the politicians or the rich happy about it, maybe but they have money to purchase it unlike the citizens. The transporter (the bike men, driver and so on.) Are not okay with it but they are happy to add thrice of the money to the transportation fare and we the passenger cannot complain. Are they to be blamed, I don’t think so. Or is it the Government or the filing station that sell fuel that is to be blamed? The people selling fuel at the filing station even sees opportunity in this to make extra money.

There is a day my dad sent me to buy fuel at a filing station, on getting there after I bought the fuel and was about to go, they ask for extra money for gallon, I asked for the reasons, they replied by saying ‘its because they are selling fuel while some filling station did not open’ I came to realize that is how they are collecting it from people that purchase fuel at their filing station which is very terrible.

When we resume back to school, I became aware that the place we took bus to at the rate of #100 is now #200, and the place we take keke to at the rate of #50 is now #100 which is doubled the amount we normally pay before. So I think all of us are to be blamed for the cost of the fuel, because of our greediness.

But, if the Government can help by reducing the price of the fuel, it will really help us the citizens, or better still repair the engine that refine fuel in Nigeria. Nigeria will be a better place and will change a lot of things in our country, because now everything we do daily require the use of fuel.
