The highly celebrated coronation of High Chief Dele Akinosho at the federal capital territory (Abuja) as the custodian of ‘Oduduwa shrines’ by the various traditional groups across the Southwestern states of Nigeria and beyond might have come and gone but its beautiful memories will continue to linger in peoples’ hearts.
The event which had in attendance various traditional groups from all walks of life, was made colourful by the African tradition and cultural heritages displayed by the masquerades, igunu ko, Eyo among others.
According to Chief Peter Ifatonbi, who is the publicity secretary of the Ododuwa followers (cult ) group, ” Today is a joyous day to us the traditionalist. The Muslims and Christians do celebrate their days and honour their members too with one title or the other. Today, we are celebrating our ancestors and at the same time, honoring our living legends who have been preserving our traditions and culture.”
“Bestoring the highest traditional honor to High Chief Dele Akinosho is long overdue because Baba has paid his due. He has contributed immensely to the preservation of our culture and traditions.”
“This is honour is not just for anybody but for a legend like him and to those who are well recognized in the society. Baba is well connected across the country and relates well with everybody irrespective of your social status. The calibre of people here today shows how powerful and influencial he is. Therefore, it is an honour to have such man in our midst.”
It will be recalled that who is who from the security agencies, politicians and business moguls attended the coronation to honor Chief Akinosho.
