Former Nigerian petroleum minister Diezani Alison Maduekwe, who fled to the UK out of fear of the EFCC, has pleaded with the Nigerian government for mercy.
Reportedly suffering from stage two cancer, Diezani has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to permit her to return to Nigeria and confess to any misappropriation while in office.
In London for a medical visit, Diezani revealed her readiness to come clean about the billions of dollars she allegedly stole during her time as petroleum minister.
The former minister, acknowledging her misappropriation, said, “Life is temporary,” and asked for forgiveness to contribute her part to her home country.
Diezani also expressed concern over the 9 billion dollars she entrusted to Dauda Lawal Dare, the current Zamfara State governor, who has since cut off communication with her and allegedly collaborated with UK police to monitor her.
She pleaded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assistance in returning to Nigeria to explain and provide evidence of the funds she misappropriated.
Diezani emphasized her love for Nigeria and her desire to return home, despite the challenges she is facing.
