According to research, 88 percent of college student reported their lives in school to being stressful.
Stress is a common element in the life a person despite their race or cultural background. Who said the life of a college student is easy? Life as an undergraduate can be very stressful and complicated. It may have it's exciting and fun moment but it is more stressful than it is fun. There are different reasons the life of a college student can be stressful. It could be much work load or inadequate financial resources.
Imagine having to work on different school projects and assignments, from different lecturers, on the same day and expected to submit the following week. The amount of assessment given can make the students anxious and unable to meet up with the deadline. Students have their lives to live (e.g. part- time jobs) outside school that will take a lot of time an energy, thus, making it difficult to work on their school work and still meet up with the deadline. The amount of work load of an undergraduate can make it difficult for them to manage their time properly. I stated earlier that students have their live outside school. This can make I think difficult for them to manage their school life with their life outside school.
Although they could rush and meet up with the deadline, their works could be filled with errors, which could also lead to failure.
There is the saying "not all fingers are equal" this affect the lives of undergraduate. Students with limited financial resources will find it difficult to buy; hand-outs, texts and other related materials in school. The lecturers making it mandatory to get these materials can put the students in a tight spot
as they can't afford it. Such things can make a student go into depression, killing the spirit to learn as they have nothing to read for their exams. Majors in the field of Education and Medicine have reported that the highest level of stressor for students is "Exam"(89%). The fear of failure is one of the major sources of stress. The fact that students are not fully prepared for the examination, can lead
them into anxiety and depression which is very bad for their mental health. Some students who
would want the easy way out go into exam malpractice, just to pass and impress their families; this can lead such student to expulsion, if caught.
There are some ways in which students can overcome this stress, though not completely but it can be very helpful. Student can avoid stress by getting enough sleep. This seem like the best way to overcome stress. Our mind and body need time to rest from different activities carried out. So as tomaintain our mental health. Sleeping helps one relax their mind, soul and body, thus, reducing stress.
Time management can really go a long way in reducing stress. It is necessary as a student to learn to manage time properly. Try to organize your work by doing the needful at the right time so you can rest when it's time to rest.
Time management keeps one focus and stable, when one knows what to do next so as to not waste time unnecessarily.
Creating time for yourself can also help relieve stress. As students, in everything you do always remember to have a little "me time". A time when you can relax, have fun, go out with friends and do all sort of exciting activities. This alone helps to push stress out of your mind, relieving you from mental stress.
Remember, whenever you are having a stressful moment as a student, find someone trustworthy, be it your parents, friend or pastor. Sharing helps relieve you of stress because it helps you realize that you are not alone in it. It shows you have people who will listen, support and understand you.
Stress is what we go through in our everyday life. It is to push us and prepare us for the future so we can become a better version of ourselves.
