{"id":9702,"date":"2022-07-27T12:24:58","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T12:24:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=9702"},"modified":"2022-07-27T12:24:58","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T12:24:58","slug":"two-officers-six-soldiers-killed-in-attack-on-presidential-guards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=9702","title":{"rendered":"Two Officers, Six Soldiers Killed In Attack On Presidential Guards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Two officers and six soldiers attached to the Guards Brigade were killed in the Sunday ambush by terrorists in Bwari, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Their bodies, according to a Brigade\u2019s internal Situation Report (Sitrep), have been found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Sitrep sighted yesterday by\u00a0The Nation, gave the names of the two officers simply as Captain Samuel and Lt. Jauro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The report titled: \u201cAmbush Against own Troops of Gds Brde,\u201d was silent on the names of the others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It reads: \u201c(Capt Samuel and Lt Jauro ) x 6 KIA. Their bodies were found this evening.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The report confirmed that three soldiers were injured.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The wounded, according to the report, were evacuated to the NAOWA hospital in Abuja for treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The report added that the terrorists were \u201cwithin Bwari and possibly to carry out their plans of attacking the (Nigerian) Law School in Bwari as earlier reported.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Before\u00a0The Nation\u00a0sighted the report, the Brigade had said it lost only three of its members to the attack that happened along the Kubwa-Bwari Road.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It dismissed reports that five soldiers were whisked away by the terrorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cNo soldier was abducted. We only had three casualties and they were evacuated,\u201d the Brigade spokesman, Captain Godfrey Abakpa, said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Shortly after Abakpa spoke, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello said: \u201cTwo out of the fallen gallant officers\u201d were \u201cillustrious sons\u201d of his state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Bello, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Muhammed Onogwu, commiserated with the families of the deceased.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The governor described the attack as a \u201cdastardly act and a show of cowardice,\u201d urging \u201cthe authorities to expedite actions and ensure the capture of those responsible to forestall any future occurrence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Bello said Nigeria\u2019s internal sovereignty must not be at the mercy of criminal elements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHe also extended his commiseration to the Nigerian Army over the death of some of their finest officers,\u201d the statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to the statement: \u201cThe governor commiserated with the families of the deceased, particularly the father of Lt. Ibrahim Suleiman, Col. Suleiman Babanawa (retd) from Okpo, Olamaboro Local Government and Captain Samuel Attah from Ibaji Local Government Area of the state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The deceased operatives were a part of troops deployed in Bwari, following a security report that terrorists planned to attack the \u2018Call to Bar\u2019 of the Nigerian Law School billed for today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Over 800 Law School graduates are to take part in the \u201clow key\u201d ceremony, which has been moved to the Body of Benchers Secretariat in Jabi, also in the FCT.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One of the graduates said: \u201cThe venue for the event has been changed. It will no longer hold at the Law School at Bwari.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe have been told that it will now hold at the Body of Benchers Secretariat in Maitama and we should not invite family members.
