{"id":9128,"date":"2022-06-18T19:35:14","date_gmt":"2022-06-18T19:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=9128"},"modified":"2022-06-18T19:35:14","modified_gmt":"2022-06-18T19:35:14","slug":"vote-buying-bane-of-our-democracy-adebayo-sdp-presidential-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=9128","title":{"rendered":"Vote Buying, Bane Of Our Democracy, Adebayo, SDP Presidential Candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Prince Adewole Adebayo has lamented the negative impact vote-buying is having in the polity, especially during elections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Adebayo made the remark moments ago at the on- going<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Ekiti governorship election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"> Adebayo, whose party, SDP, fielded former governor of the state, Engineer Segun Oni, as it&#8217;s candidate, said it was a sad day for Nigeria and democracy where the voters sold their conscience for pecuniary gains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC cannot be blamed for the show if shame exhibited by the voters, but the law enforcement agents and the political parties. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe BVAS worked quite well, of course,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>there are hitches here and there which is expected of technology, may be less than<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>less than 1% of the BVAS equipment had problems as INEC officials were not in any malpractice as they didn&#8217;t forge any results, whatever the people voted is what INEC recorded. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cYou can&#8217;t blame INEC if somebody collected money and voted, it&#8217;s not INEC&#8217;s job to go into the hearts of the people. The locust of the crime has shifted from INEC to law enforcement agents and political parties. There is no victim here because the voters voluntarily sold their votes.
