{"id":8893,"date":"2022-06-10T18:36:18","date_gmt":"2022-06-10T18:36:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=8893"},"modified":"2022-06-10T18:36:18","modified_gmt":"2022-06-10T18:36:18","slug":"viral-whatsapp-bc-soyinka-denies-paying-tribute-to-tinubu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=8893","title":{"rendered":"Viral WhatsApp BC: Soyinka Denies Paying Tribute To Tinubu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has debunked claims that he paid tribute to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This was contained in a statement titled, \u2018I did not pay tribute to Tinubu- Soyinka\u2019, issued by his spokesman, Abiola Owoaje, on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A tribute titled, \u2018Prof Wole Soyinka\u2019s tribute to Sen Asiwaju Tinubu\u2019, purportedly written by Soyinka eulogising Tinubu on his political accomplishments, had gone viral on various WhatsApp platforms shortly after he emerged as the presidential flagbearer of the APC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The elder statesman had, earlier in the year, also dismissed a social media post endorsing Tinubu for the 2023 Presidency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Soyinka described the trending post as the handiwork of indolent identity thieves whose preoccupation is to deceive the general public with phoney social media posts to gain prominence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He maintained that he did not operate or own social media accounts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The statement further said, \u201cThe literary luminary reiterated his position on the 2023 elections and the issues surrounding it, noting that he has no business meddling in the struggle for power by political parties in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cSoyinka enjoins the general public to be on alert to the antics of faceless cowards spreading falsehood, adding that they should not partake in the despicable action of the authors by spreading the cocktail of lies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Copyright PUNCH.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has debunked claims that he paid tribute to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
