Nigerian artiste, Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, yesterday, won a rerun election conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Eti-Osa House of Representatives\u2019 constituency of Lagos State.<\/p>\n
The celebrity had earlier won in the primary conducted on May 22 across the state but his name was missing from the final list.<\/span><\/p>\n But the party\u2019s NWC later cancelled the primaries held in the 24 federal constituencies and declared rerun elections yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n Daily Trust reports that the elections took place across the 24 federal constituencies with uncertainty from members.<\/span><\/p>\n As of the time of filing this report, the primaries were still ongoing in some local governments.<\/span><\/p>\n But for Banky W, he contested alongside a legal practitioner, Mr Sam Aiboni, in the primary held at the party secretariat on Alpha Beach Road in Eti-Osa LGA of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n The election, which started at 4:45pm, was held for 30 minutes with two contestants, 28 delegates from the wards and one national delegate.<\/span><\/p>\n The returning officer, Mr Ojosegun Abayomi, screened the 29 delegates and announced the absence of two of the delegates.<\/span><\/p>\n At the end of the election, he declared Banky W the winner with 24 votes out of the 29 votes cast.<\/span><\/p>\n Abayomi described the process as peaceful and transparent.<\/span><\/p>\n Reacting to his victory, Banky W thanked the party and the people for the opportunity to represent the party in the 2023 election, describing the process as free and fair.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI want to thank the leaders, the delegates, the party members, the presiding officer, INEC, the DSS and the police for being here to ensure this election is free and fair,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n Elsewhere, elections were still taking place in some local governments including Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency as of press time.<\/span><\/p>\n Members of the party had earlier expressed frustration over the exercise, saying there was no adequate information on the primaries.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Nigerian artiste, Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, yesterday, won a rerun election conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Eti-Osa House of Representatives\u2019 constituency of Lagos State.
