{"id":8245,"date":"2022-05-18T18:02:39","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T18:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=8245"},"modified":"2022-05-18T18:02:39","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T18:02:39","slug":"nigerias-accountant-general-suspended-over-alleged-n80bn-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=8245","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria\u2019s Accountant-general Suspended Over Alleged N80bn Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been suspended indefinitely over alleged N80 billion fraud.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He was suspended by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a letter dated May 18, 2022, the minister said the suspension \u201cwithout pay\u201d was to allow for \u201cproper and unhindered investigation\u201d in line with public service rules.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission announced the arrest of Idris over alleged diversion and laundering of N80 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Head of Media and Public Information, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, stated that verified intelligence reports showed that Idris raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Uwujaren added that the funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He explained that Idris was arrested after he failed to honour invitations by the EFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been suspended indefinitely over alleged N80 billion fraud.
