The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday said that six aspirants are jostling for the party\u2019s governorship ticket in the 2023 election.<\/p>\n
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Hakeem Amode, in a statement, disclosed that the aspirants had appeared before the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led screening panel at the party\u2019s Zonal Office in Ibadan.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cEleven aspirants from Oyo, Lagos and Ogun states appeared before the panel in Ibadan.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe Lagos aspirants that appeared before the panel were Shamsideen Dosumu, AbdulAzeez Adediran, David Kolawole, Jimi Karmal, Adedeji Doherty and Rhodes Gbadebo,\u201d the spokesman said.<\/span><\/p>\n Amode said that the chapter had on Wednesday screened aspirants for the Senate, House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n He commended the party\u2019s screening committee and aspirants for successful clearance.<\/span><\/p>\n Amode also commended the party\u2019s leadership for the ward congresses to elect 3-member ad hoc delegates ahead of the party\u2019s primaries.<\/span><\/p>\n Expressing gratitude to all the stakeholders and participants, Amode said that the smoothness of the exercise was an indication that the party was ready for the 2023 elections.<\/span><\/p>\n He said that the screening was successful due to the calibre of aspirants that had come out to contest various seats in the 2023 elections.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe peaceful screening is an indication that PDP is ready to play fair in the coming elections.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cPDP is very ready to take over Lagos, make governance about the people and give Lagos residents reasons to sleep with both eyes closed.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cFor this reason, the party has made sure the best and most capable hands within the party have come out to contest for the 2023 elections,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n PDP will conduct a national convention to nominate its presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections on May 28 and May 29.<\/span><\/p>\n It also fixed May 21 for the conduct of its governorship primary elections to pick its candidates.<\/span><\/p>\n Primary elections for the nomination of House of Representatives and Senate candidates will hold on the May 12 and May 14 respectively while the congresses to nominate candidates for House of Assembly will hold on May 7. <\/span><\/p>\n (NAN)<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday said that six aspirants are jostling for the party\u2019s governorship ticket in the 2023 election.
