{"id":7218,"date":"2022-04-20T21:03:03","date_gmt":"2022-04-20T21:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=7218"},"modified":"2022-04-20T21:03:03","modified_gmt":"2022-04-20T21:03:03","slug":"sterling-bank-can-calls-for-removal-of-chief-executive-over-ungodly-easter-advert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=7218","title":{"rendered":"Sterling Bank: CAN Calls For Removal Of Chief Executive Over \u2018Ungodly\u2019 Easter Advert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The Christian Association of Nigeria has demanded the sacking of the Chief Executive of Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman, over the bank\u2019s controversial Easter advert comparing the resurrection of Jesus Christ with the rising of Agege Bread.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The apex Christian body who made the call on Wednesday urged Christians to be wary of financial institutions they patronise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Joseph Daramola, and titled, \u2018CAN Condemns Provocative, Insensitive Advertisement of Sterling Bank\u2019, CAN described the advert copy by the bank as \u201cungodly, wicked, insensitive and deliberately provocative\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Reacting in its statement, the Christian body said,\u201cThe purported apology did not come from a penitent heart. How can someone in his right mind describe the risen Christ as a loaf of bread? That is insulting, ridiculous and a mockery of Jesus Christ. We advised Christians to be wary of the banks and other financial institutions they are patronising.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe learnt that the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria has reportedly intervened in the matter with a view to impose some sanctions against Sterling Bank. The Christian Association of Nigeria is waiting for the decision of the organisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHowever, in the interim, we call for the immediate removal of the Chief Executive of Sterling Bank; Mr. Abubakar Suleiman with his Management whose actions have clearly shown their hostility and hatred for the Christian faith.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe call on all Christians not to take the law into their hands in seeking redress, but to let the relevant authorities handle the matter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It will be recalled that Sterling Bank over the weekend posted a puffed, golden-brown, halved Agege Bread with the caption, \u2018Like Agege Bread, He Rose\u2026 Happy Easter\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Many social media users slammed Sterling Bank over the denigratory comparison and the bank deleted the posts on its social media handles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The bank subsequently uploaded another copy of an opened tomb significant of Christ\u2019s departure from the grave and added the caption, \u2018\u2026let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone\u2019 but the apology was rejected by many.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria also said it would sanction the bank for the provocative advert.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Christian Association of Nigeria has demanded the sacking of the Chief Executive of Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman, over the bank\u2019s controversial Easter advert comparing the resurrection of Jesus Christ with the rising of Agege Bread.
