{"id":7185,"date":"2022-04-19T13:34:40","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T13:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=7185"},"modified":"2022-04-19T13:34:40","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T13:34:40","slug":"lagos-23-right-groups-ngos-others-rally-for-sanwo-olus-2nd-term-endorsement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=7185","title":{"rendered":"Lagos \u201923: Right Groups, NGOs, Others Rally For Sanwo-Olu\u2019s 2nd Term Endorsement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If our findings are anything to go by, several human right groups, various pro-democracy advocates and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), are already perfecting plans to storm every nook and cranny of Lagos State with huge and ground-shaking rallies to express excitements and delights over the reported endorsement of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu\u2019s second term in office.<\/p>\n<p>This is sequel to the announcement of the Governor\u2019s Advisory Council (GAC), which is the Apex Lagos State political body of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, April 18, endorsing incumbent governor Sanwo-Olu for a second term in office from 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made by the Council\u2019s Secretary, Alhaji Mutiu Are, who was quoted to have said that the endorsement was hinged on the governor\u2019s superlative achievement in office since 2019 that he mounted the governorship throne in the state.<\/p>\n<p>It was against this background that, the activists arrived at their decision to paint the state red in appreciation of the GAC\u2019s welcome decision.<\/p>\n<p>Letting the cat out of the bag is a pan-Lagos indigenous organization, Egbe Omoluabi Eko (Egbe), that said, \u201cthe reported endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term in office by the GAC calls for a huge celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to its Convener, Ogbeni Ekundina Ibrahim, his members have commenced arrangements to hit the town with a big rally to give kudos to the highly revered members of the GAC for a job well done,\u201d disclosing that, \u201csignals have gone out to several right groups and pro-democracy organizations to get prepared for the grandmother of all rallies to show appreciation for the heart-warming decision that was being expected for long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When contacted for comments, National President, Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), Comrade Razaq Olokoba said, \u201cthe decision is in line with our conviction that the governor\u2019s performance has qualified him to go for a second term in office,\u201d adding, \u201cthe decision is popular, acceptable, welcome and thoughtful and so, calls for celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the same vein, leader of an all women Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Women for Change Initiatives WFCI), Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle, also commended the Council in a statement for the decision, admitting that, \u201cit was in line with the thoughts of the overwhelming population of the people of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comrade Omolola Olukayode of the Movement for a Better Lagos, confirmed the move to hold a big rally to celebrate the endorsement, asking rhetorically, \u201cor don\u2019t you feel it calls for a big celebration?!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We gather authoritatively that, the rallies are planned to happen before the official declaration by the governor with another mighty one on the very day of the declaration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If our findings are anything to go by, several human right groups, various pro-democracy advocates and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), are already perfecting plans to storm every nook and cranny of Lagos State with huge and ground-shaking rallies to express excitements and delights over the reported endorsement of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu\u2019s second term in office.
