{"id":7136,"date":"2022-04-17T12:43:49","date_gmt":"2022-04-17T12:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=7136"},"modified":"2022-04-17T12:43:49","modified_gmt":"2022-04-17T12:43:49","slug":"emefieles-presidential-aspiration-fades-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/?p=7136","title":{"rendered":"Emefiele\u2019s Presidential Aspiration Fades Away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The chances of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor\u00a0Godwin Emefiele joining the presidential race have got slimmer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">It was learnt that he is constrained by the law in coming out at this time when the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007 (as amended) requires him to \u00a0give a three-month resignation notice to the President.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The party primaries must be concluded not later than June 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Section 11(3) of the Act says: \u201cThe Governor or any Deputy Governor may resign his office by giving at least three months\u2019 notice in writing to the President of his intention to do so\u201d and any\u00a0 \u201cDirector may similarly resign by giving at least one month\u2019s notice in writing to the President of his intention to do so.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">A source said: \u201cTechnically, Emefiele is out. There is no provision for a retroactive resignation. Except if he has resigned under the table.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">\u201cWith the APC\u00a0presidential primaries slated for May 30th and 31st,\u00a0he cannot fulfill the legal basis for resignation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">\u201cGiving a waiver to Emefiele may plunge the party into crisis.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The chances of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor\u00a0Godwin Emefiele joining the presidential race have got slimmer.
