It was learnt that apart from the differences between the APC presidential aspirants, the provisions of the Electoral Act on consensus are difficult to comply with.<\/span><\/p>\n None of the presidential heavyweights will step down, one of the sources said, adding that the party has seen the sign clearly.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn addition to the fact that consensus is not in the APC Constitution to elect a presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari underwent election at the primaries in 2014. It will be a moral burden for him to preach consensus in 2022,\u201d one of the sources said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt is very clear that the PDP and APC\u00a0aspirants cannot meet up with the conditions spelt out in the Electoral Act 2022 for consensus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The Act says: \u201cA political party that adopts a consensus candidate shall secure the written consent of all cleared aspirants for the position, indicating their voluntary withdrawal from the race and their endorsement of the consensus candidate;<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhere a political party is unable to secure the written consent of all cleared aspirants for\u00a0the purpose of a consensus candidate, it shall revert to the choice of direct or indirect primaries for the nomination of candidates for the aforesaid elective positions.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cA Special Convention or nomination Congress shall be held to ratify the choice of\u00a0consensus candidates at designated centres at the National, State, Senatorial, Federal and State Constituencies, as the case may be.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Information reaching The Blog Online has revealed that none of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirants seems to be disposed to the consensus option been advocated by a section of the party.
