Nigeria international Umar Sadiq has expressed his happiness at being a part of the Super Eagles squad that represented the country at the just-concluded 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in January.<\/p>\n
He described it as a dream come true.<\/span><\/p>\n The Almeria striker alongside Huesca\u2019s Kelechi Nwakali and Enyimba\u2019s John Noble were the three players, who were yet to make their international debuts, but were included in the team that travelled to Cameroon for the tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n Sadiq, who was part of the Nigerian U-23 squad that won bronze at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, had turned down invitation from former Eagles coach Gernot Rohr as he chose to focus on Almeria\u2019s promotion chase in the Spanish second division.<\/span><\/p>\n The 25-year-old did eventually make his first appearance and AFCON debut for Nigeria at the 33rd edition of Africa\u2019s football showpiece, scoring in the 3-1 win over Sudan in the second game of the group phase.<\/span><\/p>\n In a quote published by estadiodeportivo, the former AS Roma player said it was a dream come true to have represented the country at the AFCON.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI also missed being here. At that time I needed to play with Almer\u00eda. In the end, I love my country.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was a dream to be able to represent the national team. Right now I\u2019m here and I hope to be able to give my best for our fans and team.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI have lived a dream that came true: first I debuted; I managed to score my first goal \u2026 we had very special moments that I felt. What I want is for it to last over time.
