As she recalled, she has met Orelope-Adefulire when she was <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">a Commissioner and later Deputy G<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">overnor <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">in<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Lagos<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">State<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. The UN DSG had at that occasion<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> recalled how Princess Orelope-<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Adefulire, as the deputy governor of Lagos ensured that all funds allocated from her office to the state for projects we<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">re<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> well accounted for.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">She also noted that the former deputy governor has deployed the same diligence in her current job by not only sustaining<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> the Office<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> by building on the legacies she inherited, but taking Office to a different level with <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">introduction of innovations to guide Nigeri<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">a\u2019s implementation of the 2030 A<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">genda<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> for Sustainable Development<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5389\" src=\"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CFB3AC62-6F28-4DDF-AF3B-DE9896E064C4-243x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"243\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CFB3AC62-6F28-4DDF-AF3B-DE9896E064C4-243x300.jpeg 243w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CFB3AC62-6F28-4DDF-AF3B-DE9896E064C4-831x1024.jpeg 831w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CFB3AC62-6F28-4DDF-AF3B-DE9896E064C4-768x947.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CFB3AC62-6F28-4DDF-AF3B-DE9896E064C4-750x925.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CFB3AC62-6F28-4DDF-AF3B-DE9896E064C4.jpeg 876w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/><br \/>\nThe UN-DSG was particularly impressed by efforts of the SSAP-SDGs working with other stakeholders to ensure that the implementation of SDGs in Nigeria is guided by the use of data. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s5\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201cYou have done something that is very remarkable and I hope we can amplify this at the global level and that is to address the problem of data, because if you say so, so and so number of Nigerians are living below poverty line \u2013 who are they, where are they and how can we reach them? And for me to see the level of investments you have made in trying to get the baselines out is extra-ordinary,\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Ms Mohammed said during the visit. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">This was a testimony to the passion that the former deputy governor of Nigeria\u2019s foremost state has deployed to <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the job she was graciously <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">appointed to lead<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Her <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">office<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> is<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> saddled with the task of coordinating Nigeria\u2019s efforts <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">in implementing the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">SDGs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p administrator, social worker and grassroots politician with a passion for the advancement of the rights of women, youth and vulnerable persons, Princess Orelope-Adefulire who turned 62 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">on Wednesday, 29<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">th<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> September<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> has provided <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">strategic direction, leadership <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">coordination for efforts to achieve the global goals in actualization of the mandate entrusted on her when she was first appointed the SSAP-SDGs by President Buhari<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> in 2016<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> till date<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">And there are key achievements to show for her efforts in term of policies, initiatives and interventions that are changing lives in education, health, empowerment and poverty alleviation in communities across Nigeria. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Under her leadership, the SDGs Office has received commendations for initiatives such as the design of the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) for sustainable development, Independent \u00a0evaluation \u00a0of \u00a0priority \u00a0SDGs with Nigeria acknowledged as \u00a0the \u00a0first country<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> to have successfully carried out independent evaluation of any of the goals \u00a0in \u00a0the \u00a0Global \u00a0South.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The Office has also been receiving accolades for <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the \u00a0development of the Nigeria Sustainable Development Goa<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ls Implementation Plan \u00a0(2020-<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">2030) \u00a0to \u00a0provide \u00a0a \u00a0coherent \u00a0and \u00a0overarching framework on the implementation of the SDGs in Nigeria<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> in the decade of action<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, production of baseline study and indicators for the SDGs,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> as well as domestication and customization of the Nigeria Integrated Sustainable \u00a0Development \u00a0Goals \u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">simulation (iSDG)<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> model \u00a0to \u00a0provide \u00a0a \u00a0homegrown, analytical tool for SDGs based planning at national and sub-national level. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5391\" src=\"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/4E3C1773-8376-48A9-9576-8F454D7F6CC5-286x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">She has also led efforts to mainstream the SDGs into development plans at the national and subnational levels as well as \u00a0the \u00a0development \u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a0first \u00a0(2017) \u00a0and \u00a0second \u00a0(2020) \u00a0Nigeria\u2019s Voluntary \u00a0National \u00a0Reviews \u00a0(VNRs) \u00a0which were<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">presented to the UN<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> High Political Forum on Sustainable Development to high acclaim. These are just few among the initiatives<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, some of which were achieved in partnership with key stakeholders<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">But she has always noted that governments do not have the resources or even the capacity to achieve the SDGs<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> alone, hence,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> as also indicated in goal 17 of the agenda, there must be active involvement of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">stakeholders<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> outside of the government and the public sector in the process.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Against this backdrop, Princess Orelope-<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Adefulire has also led the process of cultivating a structured partnership for the task of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">implementing the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> SDGs in Nigeria with groups such as the Private Sector Advisory Group on SDGs; D<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">onors<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> Partners<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">hip<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Forum; and the Civil Society Strategy Group on SDGs now playing crucial roles in the implementation of the global goals in <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the country.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5396\" src=\"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/9A04FFC0-33DC-49D9-88F9-E0A1A7459935-253x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"253\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/9A04FFC0-33DC-49D9-88F9-E0A1A7459935-253x300.jpeg 253w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/9A04FFC0-33DC-49D9-88F9-E0A1A7459935-863x1024.jpeg 863w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/9A04FFC0-33DC-49D9-88F9-E0A1A7459935-768x911.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/9A04FFC0-33DC-49D9-88F9-E0A1A7459935-750x890.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/9A04FFC0-33DC-49D9-88F9-E0A1A7459935.jpeg 910w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><br \/>\nAnd in terms of directly touching the lives of Nigerians, this Lagos Princess has in demonstration of her <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">passion for development and welfare of women, children and the vulnerable<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> group<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> led <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">OSSAP-SDGs since 2016<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> to deliver key <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">interventions in health<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, education and poverty alleviation among others. In the health sector, OSSAP-SDGs has delivered <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">149-<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">bed, 100-bed, 80-bed Mother and Child Centres<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">in 32 states of the country and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">about<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> 200 primary healthcare centres <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">spread across <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the 36 states of the federation. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Also, the Office has constructed over 2000 primary schools across the country as part of the efforts of the Buhari administration to enhance the quality of basic education and reduce the number of out of school children. In terms of empowerment and poverty alleviation, the Office has also delivered well equipped Skills Acquisition Centre<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">across the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">tates while the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">constructions of many others are<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ongoing. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The Centres are designed to help address issues of poverty and unemployment as well as jumpstart a surge in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">within the communities and environs<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. As Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and later, deputy governor of Lagos State, she demonstrated<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> the same<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> passion and put into practice her advocacy for progressive change and the cause of women, eradication of poverty, education and protection of children through enduring flagship initiatives. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Some of the key initiatives which has placed Lagos State ahead of its peers in term of catering for the welfare of vulnerable persons, women and children include the establishment of a \u00a0176-bed \u00a0Transit \u00a0Home \u00a0for \u00a0the \u00a0victims \u00a0of domestic violence, establishment of women economic empowerment programmes in the area of vocational skills training, financial services, assets, and support networks of peers and mentors, Support the \u00a0Girl-Child \u00a0education \u00a0initiative, \u00a0the \u00a0Child \u00a0Rights \u00a0Law \u00a0and \u00a0Domestic and Lagos State Children Parliament among such initiatives which have been copied by other states today.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Indeed, she built the First Multipurpose Home\/Clinics for children with Disabilities in Lagos State to provide succour to parents, especially the mothers who have children with disabilities. Her disposition to help others without regard to religion, ethnic background and other extraneous considerations over the years<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> earned her the appellation of &#8216;Iya Alanu&#8217; (cheerful giver).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">A humble, passionate advocate of peaceful co-existence and non-violence, Princess Orelope-Adefulire has certainly brought the same passion into her present job. She has also at various time<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">declared that President Buhari\u2019s passion for alleviation of the plight of the vulnerable has also been one of the biggest motivators for the successes recorded so far by the OSSAP-SDGs. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Her achievements and contributions to nation building and general improvement in socio-economic circumstances of humanity in <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">about 30<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">years of public service career have been recognized with various honours and awards at home and abroad. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Last year, the prestigious Lagos State University conferred Honorary Doctor of Arts (Poverty Alleviation and Technology Incubation) on her in recognition of her contributions to the development of Lagos, Nigeria and devotion to enhancement of the welfare of the vulnerable citizens. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">She was also awarded the International Public Servant of the Year 2007 award by the Scottish Widows; a UK-based Non- Governmental Organisation and was also \u00a0the recipient of Lagos State Man of the Year award in 2009. Princess Orelope \u2013Adefulire has also been honored with Daisey George Award 2010 in USA<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> in recognition of her advocacy for<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> children&#8217;s protection and development. She was also in 2018 honoured with an award by the International Women&#8217;s Society (IWS) in recognition of her efforts at empowerment and defence of rights of women, youth and children. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">And in recognition of her contributions towards the attainment of Goal 8 and 10 of the SDGs, Princess Adejoke was on May 10, 2019 inducted as a fellow of the global membership platform of the Association of Business Executives, ABE in United Kingdom. She is also a fellow of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos West and recipient of Award of recognition from Anglican Church of Resurrection.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The SSAP-SDGs is also a recipient of the Guinness World Records for the most children reading aloud with an adult at a single location, which she achieved while reading with 4,222 school children in 2011. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s4\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The exciting thing is that she is not resting on her oars as she continues to seek new ways and innovations to deliver the ultimate global ambition of ensuring that no one is left behind in Nigeria, working with other stakeholders on behalf of President Buhari.
