Al Ain Film Festival <\/span><\/span>has <\/span><\/span>announced the <\/span><\/span>launch<\/span><\/span> of<\/span><\/span> its third edition,<\/span><\/span> Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan member of the Executive Council, <\/span><\/span>which will take place <\/span><\/span>in <\/span><\/span>Al Ain<\/span><\/span> city<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>between <\/span><\/span>23<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span> \u2013 27<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span>of January 2021, <\/span><\/span>under the slogan “Future<\/span><\/span> Cinema<\/span><\/span>“<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In which <\/span><\/span>the Festival<\/span><\/span> continues to support local and Gulf filmmakers by implementing new initiatives, various programs, distinctive shows and agreements<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> in the service of “<\/span><\/span>the 7<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> Art”<\/span><\/span>, to be the most prominent platform for discovering and presenting the best productions and t<\/span><\/span>alents of cinema in the region<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The F<\/span><\/span>estival was announced during a press conference <\/span><\/span>held yesterday<\/span><\/span>, attended by Amer Salmeen Al Mu<\/span><\/span>rry<\/span><\/span>, Founder and Director General of the Festival, Hani Al Shaibani, A<\/span><\/span>rt<\/span><\/span> D<\/span><\/span>irector, and<\/span><\/span> Saeed Salmeen, who joined the F<\/span><\/span>estival management t<\/span><\/span>o take over the task of A<\/span><\/span>rt<\/span><\/span> D<\/span><\/span>irector of the program <\/span><\/span>“<\/span><\/span>Cinema O<\/span><\/span>f <\/span><\/span>The W<\/span><\/span>orld<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Third Edition of Al Ain Film Festival 2021 offers the audience of the “Golden Screen” a bouquet of distinctive events, which celebrate the most prominent filmmakers, <\/span><\/span>of professionals<\/span><\/span> and fresh young talents over a period of 5 days. After the impressive success of the First and Second Editions of the Festival, with the testimony of the audience as well as the critics, which enables the Founder and Director of the Festi<\/span><\/span>val, Amer Salmeen Al <\/span><\/span>Murry<\/span><\/span>, to achieve his ambition by including <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>name of “Al Ain” city, on the map of international festivals<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> and support<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span> the young Emirati talents.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Europe Arrives A<\/span><\/span>t Al Ain <\/span><\/span>Film Festival<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Amer Salmeen Al <\/span><\/span>Murry<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>revealed<\/span><\/span> during the conference, that he had reached an agreement with the “European Union” office, whereby a bunch of distinctive European films, that have met with success in Europe and some of international film festivals, will be display<\/span><\/span>ed during the Festival. Different European countries show high interest in collaborating with the festival,<\/span><\/span> with the aim of exchanging<\/span><\/span> experiences and cultures in this<\/span><\/span> field<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>and providing an opportunity for Emirati and Gulf audiences, to watch variou<\/span><\/span>s films of high artistic value.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Through its summer program of the weekends, the Festival will display a group of European films, and each week will be devoted to a specific country, in addition to organizing workshops by filmmakers from many European countries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fareed Ramadhan<\/span><\/span> Award<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span><\/span>Fareed Ramadhan<\/span><\/span>” award for the best screenplay for a long Gulf film, is one of the new and distinctive a<\/span><\/span>wards that Amer Salmeen Al Murry<\/span><\/span>revealed during the conference, and was intended to encourage the scriptwriters as well as to honor the spirit of the late Bahraini writer and screenwriter, <\/span><\/span>Fareed Ramadhan<\/span><\/span>, who had a prominent presence in the First and the Second Editions of the Festival, and his writings have enriched Bahraini and Gulf cinema in general.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Abu Dhabi Festival<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span><\/span> General<\/span><\/span> Manager of Al Ain <\/span><\/span>Festival expressed his pleasure to collaborate, in this edition, with Abu Dhabi Festival, one of the leading cultural events locally and internationally, as the Festival’s strategic cultural partner, and Al Ain Film Festival annou<\/span><\/span>nced the opening of submission<\/span><\/span>through its official website, for a new competition entitled “<\/span><\/span>Abu Dhabi Festival Unproduced Screenplay<\/span><\/span>“, Targeting young Emirati scriptwriters, to create a new generation, that can enrich local content with fresh unique topics presented to cinema. <\/span><\/span>Three prizes have been allocated to this purpose, best three unproduced screenplays (short film), at a value of 20 thousand dirhams each<\/span><\/span>, with<\/span><\/span> support of Abu Dhabi Festival, as Al Ain Film Festival prepared the conditions and <\/span><\/span>regulations for the competition,<\/span><\/span> in which the winners will be disclosed in June 2021 after the evaluation and selection processes that will be conducted by a special jury for this competition<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>consisting of a group of Arab filmmakers and scriptwriters.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Achievements of <\/span><\/span>the A<\/span><\/span>rtists<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Festival manager<\/span><\/span> revealed that in the new edition of “Al Ain Film Festival”, and as a part of “Honoring Artists’ Achievements” program, a group of art professionals will be honored, for their artistic career full of many achievements in the world of film industry, and their great contributions to the advancement of the “<\/span><\/span>Seventh Art”. They are Sheikha A<\/span><\/span>lyazia Bint Nahyan, <\/span><\/span>Emirati director Nujoom Al-Ghane<\/span><\/span>m, and the late Bahraini writer and screenwriter <\/span><\/span>Fareed Ramadhan<\/span><\/span>. He said: \u201cAl Ain Film Festival raises the slogan “Future Cinema”, but we <\/span><\/span>cannot<\/span><\/span> forget those who have served this art for many years<\/span><\/span>, and I am pleased that the 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span> E<\/span><\/span>dition of the Festival will honor Emirati and Arab, who have made rich and important additions, throughout their artistic experience.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Competitions and surprises<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Among the new initiatives that “Al Ain Film Fe<\/span><\/span>stival” is witnessing in its 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span>edition, is an exceptional competition entitled “Make Your Film in the Time of Corona”. It is a competition that gives the filmmakers an opportunity to benefit from the quarantine, by filming a short film, with a duration of 3 to 15 minutes, revolving around Details of daily life in light of the quarantine imposed by the Corona pandemic, and the competition that was announced in the summer of 2020 was met with great <\/span><\/span>participation<\/span><\/span> by Emiratis and residents of various nationalities in the country. For this competition, the festival allocated two <\/span><\/span>awards<\/span><\/span>, the first for the (best film) and the second for the (best idea).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The exceptional difficult circumstances imposed by the crisis of the repercussions of “Covid-19” on the world, have not prevented filmmakers from participating in more than 3<\/span><\/span>78<\/span><\/span> films, which co<\/span><\/span>nfirms their confidence in the F<\/span><\/span>estival, which is taking steady steps towards achieving its goal of “a bright future for cinema”. Films of all kinds have been chosen. From fiction and documentary, long and short, which will compete with each other for prizes in the official competitions:<\/span><\/span> Falcon Emriati Film, Falcon Gulf <\/span><\/span>Feature <\/span><\/span>Film, <\/span><\/span>Falcon Gulf Feature Short Film, <\/span><\/span>Falcon <\/span><\/span>Student Films, Falcon Resident Films<\/span><\/span>, and the special competition <\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span> the 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span> E<\/span><\/span>dition of the Festival \u201cMake Y<\/span><\/span>our Film in the Time of Corona\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al <\/span><\/span>Murry affirmed that the Festival’s management has challenged the exceptional conditions that the world is experiencing today as a result of “Covid 19” and decided to organize the 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span> Edition of the Festival, but in return it adapted a new plan that guarantees adherence to the necessary preventive and precautionary measures, to ensure the health of the pub<\/span><\/span>lic and those in charge of the F<\/span><\/span>estival, as it has set a cap<\/span><\/span>acity for show halls to ensure p<\/span><\/span>hysical distancing,<\/span><\/span> as well as<\/span><\/span> some virtual events, similar to some international festivals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hani Al <\/span><\/span>Shaibani, Art Director of the Festival, said during the conference: \u201cThe Festival received a large number of films<\/span><\/span> in all competitions, as the 3<\/span><\/span>rd<\/span><\/span>Edition witnessed a significant increase in the number of participating films by 35% over the previous edition, which confirms the importance of the Festival in creating a progressive cinematic activity in the UAE.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

World C<\/span><\/span>inema<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In his turn, Director Saeed Salmeen expressed his happiness to join the Festival’s management and assume the task of Art Director of the <\/span><\/span>“<\/span><\/span>World Cinema<\/span><\/span>“<\/span><\/span> Program, and confirmed that he, in turn, will contribute to a greater activation of the program, by presenting a number of successful and distinctive foreign and Arab films to the local audience.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

It is noteworthy that “Al Ain Fil<\/span><\/span>m Festival” presented in its 2<\/span><\/span>nd<\/span><\/span> Edition 54 films that participated in the official competitions of the Festival, 15 of which were in the world premiere, representing the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman. The winning films have got 10 prizes in various competitions of the Festival, and 4 <\/span><\/span>award winner <\/span><\/span>feature films in the “Cinema of the World” program, were shown in the previous edition.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Festival witnessed a qualitative leap in its second session, as the opening and closing ceremonies were organized at the historic Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain. The Festival also honored 5 movie stars, namely the late Bahraini artist “Ali Al Ghurair”, the profe<\/span><\/span>ssional Egyptian actor “Ahmed Be<\/span><\/span>di<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span>r” and the Kuwaiti actor “Tariq Al Ali” The Emirati artist, Maryam Sultan, and the Emirati artist, Dhaen Jumaa.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
