Raysut\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Cement Company (RCC), Oman\u2019s largest cement manufacturer held a <\/span><\/span>groundbreaking<\/span><\/span> ceremony<\/span><\/span> triggering the start of the construction of its<\/span><\/span> new <\/span><\/span>US$30 million grinding unit in Duqm in Oman<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span>development of <\/span><\/span>Duqm plant, a strategic expansion <\/span><\/span>for <\/span><\/span>the Muscat Stock Market<\/span><\/span>-li<\/span><\/span>sted RCC will complement the company\u2019s <\/span><\/span>leadership in cement manufa<\/span><\/span><\/a>cturing <\/span><\/span>adding another<\/span><\/span> 1 million tonnes to <\/span><\/span>the group output, taking the total to 7.4 million tonnes per annum.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u201c<\/span><\/span>The <\/span><\/span>groundbreaking is a milestone for RCC on two counts<\/span><\/span>. It<\/span><\/span>will contribute significantly to our ambitious capacity expansion targets<\/span><\/span> of 10 million tonnes by 2022, <\/span><\/span>expected to be further scaled up to <\/span><\/span>22 million tonnes in the near future. Second, it will help us generate more employment <\/span><\/span>opportunities aiding our efforts to enhance social and economic progress in Oman,\u201d said Group CEO, Joey Ghos<\/span><\/span>e<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Last year September, RCC had signed a land lease and Port of Terminal services agreement with Port of Duqm Company SAOC as part of the development of the new grinding unit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe new grinding unit will add more muscle to our capability to cater to the regional and global markets of RCC which continues to expand with new investments and acquisitions in Oman, Asia and East Africa, said <\/span><\/span>Mr. Sal<\/span><\/span>i<\/span><\/span>m bin Ahmed bin Alawi Al Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Group CEO<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

RCC\u2019s investments are calibrated to ensure that these are in locations where demand is high and locally available additives are at close proximity, he said, adding that the <\/span><\/span>\u200bDuqm unit will help the company consolidate and strengthen its presence in Oman and the neighboring Gulf markets.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

RCC has been on a spree of expansion through M&<\/span><\/span>As<\/span><\/span> and new investments in Oman as well as globally in the past one year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Last May 2019, <\/span><\/span>RCC acquired Sohar Cement Company SAOG in Oman at USD 60 million. RCC had also announced developing a new <\/span><\/span>green field <\/span><\/span>1.2 million tonnes per annum cement plant <\/span><\/span>near Tbilisi, <\/span><\/span>Georgia<\/span><\/span> in<\/span><\/span> Eastern Europe, at an investment outlay of US$200 million last <\/span><\/span>October. The plant will be developed by RCC\u2019s wholly-owned subsid<\/span><\/span>iary in the UAE, Pioneer Cement Industries<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> which owns concession to limestone mines in Georgia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

RCC\u2019s latest acquisition was a majority takeover of LafargeHolcim\u2019s cement terminal at Thilafushi Islands in Maldives in October this year. Last year, the company had also announced investing US$40 million in a new grinding unit in Berbera, Somaliland in East Africa.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
