The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) today announced the targeted research areas of the program’s fourth cycle, which will be open for proposal submission<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> in early 2021<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nThese areas were selected by a team of international <\/span><\/span>atmospheric research <\/span><\/span>experts based on the outputs of the nine research projects awarded <\/span><\/span>b<\/span><\/span>etween <\/span><\/span>2015<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span>2017,<\/span><\/span> the outcomes of the 4<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> International Rain Enhancement Forum and the recommendations from <\/span><\/span>the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) expert meeting held in Geneva and <\/span><\/span>the 4<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> cycle program solicitation workshop.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Placing high priority o<\/span><\/span><\/a>n emerging technologies and innovations<\/span><\/span>, and multi-institutional, multi-national \u00a0collaborations<\/span><\/span> to drive the development <\/span><\/span>of <\/span><\/span>rain enhancement science, the<\/span><\/span> updated<\/span><\/span> areas include advances in weather modeling and forecasting using artificial intelligence and ensemble modelling, evaluation of rain enhancement efficacy through the utilization of cloud chamber and statistical methods, innovations in rain enhancement systems through the integration of new measurement and numerical tools, and leveraging <\/span><\/span>novel <\/span><\/span>rain enhancement models, among others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In parallel, the program will continue to support <\/span><\/span>the <\/span><\/span>previously targeted areas to help the awardees fulfill the<\/span><\/span>ir project<\/span><\/span>objectives. Information about <\/span><\/span>the research areas of <\/span><\/span>on-going projects can be found on www.uaerep.ae. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Al <\/span><\/span>Mandous<\/span><\/span>, Director of NCM and President of the Regional Association II (Asia) of WMO, said: \u201c<\/span><\/span>T<\/span><\/span>he program\u2019s updated research areas<\/span><\/span> will<\/span><\/span> push forward the rain enhancement research to the next level of impact and sophistication. We welcome new researchers, technologists and entrepreneurs to <\/span><\/span>join the program <\/span><\/span>to<\/span><\/span> bring new perspectives to\u00a0rain enhancement\u00a0research<\/span><\/span> and<\/span><\/span> support the development of demand-driven solutions <\/span><\/span>to <\/span><\/span>address the <\/span><\/span>evolving<\/span><\/span> water-security challenges.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For her part, Alya Al Mazroui, Director of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, said: \u201cThe research areas identified by our international experts and scientists create unexplored\u00a0avenues for generating new\u00a0knowledge and innovation in rain enhancement science, while also building on the results and expertise gained over the program\u2019s nine awarded projects. This will help us direct our future research efforts towards areas with broader implications for arid regions to address the most pressing water security challenges.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
