In Egypt, t<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">he COVID-19 crisis <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">started mid-February in Egypt, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">escalated in March<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">leading to <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">suspension of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">prayer<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> at mosques <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">on March 21, and then to a curfew in April, eased for Ramadan<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">GfK conducted the Consumer Pulse study for a deeper understanding of current and future consumer behaviours, lifestyles, and moods across 30 markets globally, including <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Egypt<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. Polling between 500 to 1000 consumers from each market, bi-weekly, the findings of the GfK study cover areas such as spending habits, media and product consumption and travel and mobility trends.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4103\" src=\"http:\/\/maadhouze.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2F320B60-F450-461F-82D2-83A39DC1598D-300x167.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2F320B60-F450-461F-82D2-83A39DC1598D-300x167.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2F320B60-F450-461F-82D2-83A39DC1598D-768x427.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/theblogonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2F320B60-F450-461F-82D2-83A39DC1598D.jpeg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201cThe anxiety and uncertainty <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">resulting from the pandemic<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">have brought about significant adjustment to <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">consumers\u2019 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">habits and future plans<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">,\u201d said <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Rahul Dixit, Head of Digital Research, Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP), GfK<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> \u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Insights from GfK\u2019s study helps<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> identify signs of disruption <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">for<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> brands <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">and businesses <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">so that opportunities and risks are seen early and managed effectively<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Change in outlook and spending habits are highlighted in GfK\u2019s initial reports<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Consumers in <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Egypt<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">are concerned about<\/span><\/span><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> COVID-19<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> (89%)<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, the economy<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> (83%) <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">and employment<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> (81%)<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> but are optimistic. The survey data collected during week of April 20<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">and May 4<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, indicates that <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">37<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> percent of polled households anticipate an improvement in the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">country<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2019s economy and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">50 percent <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">in their own finances over the next 12 months. According to GfK Point of Sales tracking, a marginal one percent growth in sales value of Egypt\u2019s IT sector was recorded in March 2020, as compared to March 2019.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">More time spent at home led to an impressive nine percent volume growth in the Consumer Electronics sector in March, driven largely by PTV. Another growth sector during the same period was smartphone, which generated seven percent more sales.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">GfK\u2019s research indicates an optimistic albeit changed outlook for Travel &amp; Tourism<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Forced confinement has whetted the appetite for travel. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Over s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ix<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> in 10<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> (63%)<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> of all<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> respondents are <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">already thinking of splurging <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">on their next holiday. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">However, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">there is a <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">measure of caution in choosing destinations due to the turn of events. Two thirds of those polled prefer to stay within the country or travel to nearby destinations. Social <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">istancing norms <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">seem to <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">have <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">an <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">impact<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> on<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> choice of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">transportation <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">mode<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">: p<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">rivate cars are the preferred mode of transport followed by <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">trains and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">domestic flights<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, while c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ruise are the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> least preferred options<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s12\"><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Rise in<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s7\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> consumption of media and advertising <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">More time at home has<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> also<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> resulted in an increase in media consumption and<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> subsequently<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> higher exposure to advertising. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Nearly<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> two-thirds<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> (6<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">5<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">%)<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> of the respondents feel that they are watching more ads now than before, and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">47<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> percent<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">said they are <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">enjoy<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ing<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> watching <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">them<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">. Screen time has gone up on digital platforms and TV. Current affairs and news bulletins compete with entertainment from drama and series. Video games, reading and music<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> now<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> occupy more <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">of consumers\u2019 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">time.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s11\"><span class=\"s8\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">The new reality has set in swiftly and changes are occurring constantly.
