The American University of <\/span>Ras<\/span> Al <\/span>Khaima<\/span>h<\/span>(AURAK) is planning to introduce four new academic programs<\/span>in <\/span>Fall<\/span> 2020 <\/span>that <\/span>were<\/span> reviewed recently by the E<\/span>xternal <\/span>R<\/span>eview <\/span>T<\/span>eam<\/span> of the Commission on Academic Accreditation at the <\/span>Ministry of Education.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new programs comprise a <\/span>Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science<\/span>, a <\/span>Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design<\/span>, a <\/span>Master <\/span>of Science <\/span>in Infrastructure Engineering<\/span>, and a <\/span>Master of Scienc<\/span>e in Sustainable and Renewable E<\/span>nergy<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe four new programs have been carefully vetted to expand the career options for AURAK\u2019s students while enhancing the University\u2019s outreach both locally and inte<\/span>rnationally. These state-of-the-<\/span>art programs are at the intersection of science and technology,\u201d said Prof. Lee Waller, Associate Provost \u2013 Office of Enrollment Management. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Artificial Intelligence<\/span><\/p>\n

The UAE has launched a national strategy for artificial intelligence<\/span><\/span>(AI)<\/span><\/span>, which includes a number of initiatives aimed at employing <\/span><\/span>AI <\/span><\/span>in vital areas such as education, government services, and community well-being. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science <\/span><\/span>will ensure<\/span><\/span> that the graduates of the program are well equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the needs of the global and local markets, enabling graduates to pursue successful careers as AI professionals and data analysts.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cArtificial Intelligence constitutes an emerging discipline on the cutting edge of science. This makes it an excellent future career field,\u201d said Prof. Waller.<\/span><\/p>\n

Infrastructure Engineering<\/span><\/p>\n

The Master in I<\/span>nfrastructure Engineering<\/span> at AURAK aims to be a leading program in the Gulf Region<\/span>. It is<\/span> designed to equip professionals involved in the planning, design and management of various infrastructure engineering sectors and systems, with advanced knowledge, management and research skills. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Engineering is another high-demand field<\/span>. \u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>With regard to <\/span>Infrastructure Engineering \u2013 all countries <\/span>require<\/span> qualified personnel to develop the infrastructure<\/span> so essential to the<\/span>ir economic viability<\/span>. <\/span>O<\/span>ne of the biggest <\/span>challenges of emerging nations<\/span> is<\/span> to empower the<\/span> engineering of their<\/span> i<\/span>nfrastructure<\/span>s<\/span>,\u201d Prof. Waller<\/span> said<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sustainable and Renewable Energy<\/span><\/p>\n

The Master of Sustainable and Renewable Energy program<\/span>coincides<\/span> with the global trend towards <\/span>clean <\/span>and <\/span>diversified energy sources and less dependence on oil. It<\/span> is designed to provide the students with<\/span> a balanced<\/span> coverage of advanced renewable energy technologies. Students will <\/span>study <\/span>the status of energy resources, their interaction with the environment, different renewable energy so<\/span>urce<\/span> technologies, techniques and technologies for energy management and conservation<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span> the economic aspects of <\/span>renewable energy-<\/span>based power generation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fears about the consequences of over-reliance on fossil fuels and the environmental consequences of burning them mean that interest in alternative sources of electricity has never been higher. In this context, <\/span>AURAK\u2019s decision to offer a Master of Science in Sustainable and Renewable energy is likely to prove popular with prospective students.<\/span><\/p>\n

Interior Design<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design<\/span> has been chosen to complement the leading Architecture <\/span>program that<\/span> the University launched six years ago. It<\/span> will<\/span> prepare graduates to apply artistic principles and techniques to the professional planning, designing, equipping, and furnishing of residential and commercial interiors.<\/span> The program aims to graduate interior desi<\/span>gners who are capable of being indoor a<\/span>rchitects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Interior Design program<\/span> is intended t<\/span>o<\/span> give greater width and depth to<\/span> AURAK\u2019s <\/span>existing <\/span>Architecture courses. <\/span><\/p>\n
