Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, March 7, 2019\u2014(<\/b>AETOSWire<\/span><\/a><\/span>)–<\/span> <\/b>Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr.\u00a0Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi,\u00a0Member\u00a0of the\u00a0Supreme Council\u00a0and\u00a0Ruler\u00a0of\u00a0Sharjah,\u00a0the 14<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> edition of Sharjah Biennial (SB14) commenced on Thursday at the Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) Art Spaces in Al Mureijah. <\/span><\/p>\n

SB14, held this year under the title \u2018Leaving the Echo Chamber\u2019, will feature three distinct exhibitions; Zoe Butt\u2019s exhibition\u00a0Journey Beyond<\/i>\u00a0The Arrow; <\/i>Omar Kholeif\u2019s\u00a0Making New Time <\/i>and Claire Tancons\u2019\u00a0Look for Me All Around You.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

SB14 features over\u00a080 <\/b>established and emerging\u00a0artists\u00a0from around the globe,\u00a0including over 60 new commissions, as well as many never-before-seen works that will displayed in various locations across the emirate of Sharjah, the Mureijah Square and the Arts Square, as well as in SAF\u2019s studios in Al Hamriyah, in the East Coast city of Kalba and other spaces in Umm Al Quwain. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Sharjah Art Foundation is also organizing the <\/b>12<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> edition of the <\/span>March Meeting 2019, from 9<\/span> -11 March, 2019 at the Sharjah Institute\u00a0of Theatrical\u00a0Arts in Al Mureijah, which will include panel discussions, performances, films and artistic productions, in line with the themes of the three exhibitions at SB14. <\/span><\/p>\n

SB14 will also feature independent film screenings for film lovers in the UAE; as well as educational programs, aligned with this year\u2019s theme \u2018Leaving the Echo Chamber\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Programs intended for adults and children include workshops on photography, drawing, writing and theatrical performance. Other workshops for \u2018People of determination\u2019 provide a variety of topics on photography skills, puppetry, drawing, musical instruments and Islamic art; while the schools and youth centers\u2019 program offers a set of workshops and field trips on topics such as abstract art, architecture and storytelling.<\/span><\/p>\n

SB14 is made possible through the generous support of Van Cleef & Arples (Gold Sponsor) and Crescent Petroleum (Silver Sponsor). In-kind support is offered by Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority; Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority; Bee’ah, the Dubai Economic Department; the Institut Fran\u00e7ais in the UAE and the Institut Fran\u00e7ais in France. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Sharjah Biennial is the most important cultural event in the Arab world and, since its inception in 1993, has been instrumental in supporting the arts landscape in the UAE and the region.<\/span><\/p>\n
