Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died at the age of 77.<\/p>\n
Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom. The circumstances surrounding his death had not been made public as of the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n
Following news of his death, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abdullahi Bello, and other senior government officials visited the late former governor\u2019s residence in Abuja to condole with his family.<\/p>\n
Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Bello, disclosed the visit in a Facebook post on Sunday, alongside photographs of Ododo and Bello at the residence.<\/p>\n
Muhammed wrote: \u201cKogi State Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo; former Governor Yahaya Bello, CON; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdullahi Bello; and other top government officials have arrived at the Abuja residence of the late former Governor Ibrahim Idris, who passed away this afternoon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Idris became governor of Kogi State in May 2003 and was re-elected in 2007, serving two consecutive terms until January 2012.<\/p>\n
He was succeeded by Idris Wada, who took over as governor in January 2012.<\/p>\n
