Adedeji Doherty, has cautioned APC governors attacking the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to retrace their steps, describing their actions as diversionary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Doherty said the governors should instead focus their energy on their constitutional responsibility of securing and improving the well-being of their citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Addressing newsmen at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his return to the country, Doherty said the Rainbow Coalition proposed by Wike would not affect the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">According to him, the governors were unnecessarily heating up the polity, questioning why they had not challenged other opposition governors in Abia, Anambra and Osun states who have openly declared support for Tinubu\u2019s second-term bid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The PDP Lagos State flagbearer said the interest of the country should be the priority of the governors rather than the Rainbow Coalition, adding that President Tinubu, whom he said he had known for over 20 years, was pleased with Wike\u2019s activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He therefore advised both parties to cease fire and support the President\u2019s ongoing reforms in the larger interest of Nigerians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Doherty acknowledged that the removal of fuel subsidy had created hardship across the country but questioned what the governors were doing to cushion the impact on residents of their respective states, given the substantial resources they receive monthly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">On his governorship ambition, Doherty promised to slash taxes paid by the majority of Lagos residents, including teachers and doctors, from his first day in office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He also promised to provide free medical care for the young and elderly, while according priority to free education across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Doherty, however, acknowledged that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had tried his best for the people of Lagos, assuring that his administration would make a fundamental impact within seven days of assuming office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">He also promised to provide a conducive environment for youths living on the streets who have become homeless and resorted to scavenging to survive, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The governorship hopeful further said the PDP was fully prepared for the 2027 general elections, adding that the party\u2019s campaign council would soon be inaugurated.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eng.
