The Democracy and Good Governance Watch Initiative (DGGWI) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and the people of Osun State for the peaceful conduct of the 2026 governorship election held on Saturday, August 15.<\/p>\n
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Monday, August 17, 2026, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, and signed by Nelson Ekujumi, Gbenga Soloki and Ajayi Popoola on behalf of the organisation.<\/p>\n
The group said the peaceful and credible conduct of the election was an indication of President Tinubu\u2019s commitment to ensuring free, fair and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n
DGGWI praised INEC for what it described as its impartiality, professionalism and commitment to conducting a credible election.<\/p>\n
It also commended the police and other security agencies for their professional conduct before, during and after the election, saying their deployment and security arrangements contributed to the peaceful conduct of the exercise.<\/p>\n
The group said the conduct of the security agencies also demonstrated their commitment to maintaining peace and allowing voters to exercise their franchise without interference.<\/p>\n
The people of Osun State were equally commended for standing firm and voting for candidates of their choice, which the organisation described as a reaffirmation of their trust and confidence in the electoral system.<\/p>\n
The statement said: \u201cWe want to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, INEC and the security agencies for the peaceful and credible conduct of the 2026 gubernatorial election in Osun State. The President has once again demonstrated his commitment to the 2027 general elections, which he has consistently maintained will be free, fair and credible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group added: \u201cINEC displayed its non-partisanship and professionalism in the process, such also deserves our praise. The security agencies for their professionalism in deployment and security cover and the people of Osun State, you showed doggedness and commitment to the process which is highly commendable.\u201d<\/p>\n
DGGWI also commended the media as well as local and international observer organisations for their roles in monitoring and reporting the election.<\/p>\n
According to the group, the contributions of the media and observers had helped to promote transparency and deepen Nigeria\u2019s democratic process.<\/p>\n
